It’s summertime in Towson, which means warm evenings, ripe local produce, and lots of opportunities to get outside and enjoy the town.
Here’s a look at what’s happening in downtown Towson for the rest of the summer:
Perennial is now open in the former Cunningham’s space. The restaurant, which is helmed by Chef Jay Rohlfing, is gorgeous both inside and out. According to the first wave of diners, the experience is luxe and excellent.
Speaking of openings…taco favorite Papi’s is opening a new outpost in the old Razorback’s spot in Dulaney Plaza. This will be the third Papi’s; other locations are in Fells Point and Hampden. Its terrific tacos and margs make it a fantastic addition to the neighborhood.
Dulaney Plaza also recently welcomed ubreakifix, an electronics repair shop. Plus, the cute shop Taken recently won a coveted “Best of Baltimore” award from Baltimore magazine.
Thursday, July 29, the team at Café Troia hosts a wine dinner featuring the dishes and wines of Emilia Romagna. The event is part of a series of wine dinners based on the regions and dishes showcased in Stanley Tucci’s television show.
After a long pandemic hiatus, events are back at the Towson Branch of the Baltimore County Public Library. The library is hosting regular family and preschool-targeted storytimes in the library’s outdoor space. Bring a blanket and chairs and come early – space is first-come, first-served. Also, keep an eye on the weather; the storytimes will be canceled in the event of bad conditions.
Feet on the Street, the weekly celebration of food, music, and fun, is going strong this summer. This year, the party takes place in Patriot Plaza (401 Bosley) and happens every Friday evening from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., from now through the end of August.
Starting August 5, The Point will host Music Bingo Trivia each Thursday night. Come out to eat, drink, and test your knowledge of tunes – for prizes.
This summer, there are tons of opportunities to see music live at different venues around downtown Towson.
The Recher Theater has a wide variety of upcoming acts, including EMO Night on July 31, classic Jerry Garcia with The Garcia Project on August 6, and a dual album release party for The Henchmen and Ebb & Nova on August 14.
Barley’s Backyard Uptown welcomes Tony Lardieri on Sunday, August 8 and Thomas Starr on August 22. Both acts will perform on the Barley’s rooftop.
Wednesday, August 11, Red Pepper Sichuan Bistro presents Live at the Red Pepper: A Night at the Opera, featuring live performances of two popular Beijing operas.
And on Friday, August 13, Casey Walton will play at C&R Pub.
Head to the mall to shop local small businesses on Saturday, August 14. You’ll find local vendors popping up in the Level 3 Rotunda during the day.
On Thursday, August 26, Towson Tavern gets scary with a 1920s-themed murder mystery dinner party. The event requires tickets (purchased in advanced) and sounds like a fun evening.
The Towson Farmers’ Market is in full swing and late summer is an amazing time for local produce. The market takes plc on Allegheny Avenue every Thursday, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Stop by to check out the great selection of fruits and veggies, prepared foods, flowers and more.
