Though the start of this school year is an unusual one, there’s still excitement in the air, as kids gear up for classes and the streets of downtown Towson welcome back university students. There’s a sense of excitement in the air – and a lot of fun events scheduled to welcome the fall season back to Towson.
Here’s a look at what’s happening just outside the doors of Hampton Plaza Apartments:
Dining Out in Towson
Though COVID-related dining restrictions are still in place, which means restaurants are operating on a limited capacity and shifting dining outside when possible, there’s a lot happening over the next few weeks at local restaurants.
Towson Tavern and Rec Room have opened up new outdoor seating, with tables taking over Shealy Ave. on the weekends.
It’s almost pumpkin spice season at THB! The iconic bagel spot will offer pumpkin spice bagels, cream cheese and lattes starting on Sept. 14.
The rooftop at Barley’s Backyard Uptown is great spot for live music; the restaurant hosts musical guests several times a week.
Catch all the games at C&R Pub: the Pennsylvania Ave. restaurant and bar hosts regular watch parties, with drink and food specials, for NHL and Orioles’ games.
CVP has a solid lineup of weekly specials, including half-priced burgers on Mondays, 50-cent wings Wednesdays and $11.99 bottomless mimosas, bloodies, sangria and Natural Light drafts during Saturday and Sunday brunch.
On Sept. 26, The Point will host a drag brunch, starting at 10 a.m.
Giving Back at Barley’s
From now through the end of October, Barley’s Backyard Uptown is collecting donations of new or gently used shoes. The shoes will be donated to The Red Devils, as part of their Soles4Shoes campaign, which ultimately benefits Maryland families who have been impacted by breast cancer.
Farmers’ Market Keeps on Growing
Don’t forget that the Towson Farmers’ Market, which takes over Allegheny Ave. every Thursday from 10: 45 a.m. to 3 p.m., will be going strong all month long (and through November). The market features tons of great vendors, from jewelry artists to barbecue purveyors.
Fitness First
Unfortunately, the Towson YogaWorks studio closed permanently in mid-August. However, there are still plenty of ways to get your fitness fix around Towson.
Towne Barre continues to hold classes both inside and outside. The studio is open for private and very small group sessions, too.
In-studio classes are on at 4 Warriors Yoga; the Towson studio also has virtual options for those who want to practice from home.
LA Fitness is open with classes scheduled every day of the week.
Some local bars and restaurants are getting in on the action, too, hosting one-off classes in their outdoor spaces. Check out Barley’s Backyard Uptown on Sept. 26, when the rooftop deck transforms into a boxing studio for a class taught by Jason Nissley, followed by a fun brunch with food and drink specials.
