- Resident Spotlight
In April of 2014 Sonya C endured every parent’s worst nightmare; her youngest daughter was killed due to domestic violence. Over time and with much healing she has turned her pain into purpose.
Sonya is a frequent speaker to audiences at Towson University and throughout Maryland as part of the Family Survivor Network. She also sponsors her own yearly event in her daughter’s honor –“India’s Purple Ribbon” during Domestic Violence Month. This year her October event may be held in the Hampton Plaza Party Room and everyone is welcome to attend. Soon Sonya will be given a well-deserved award at a ceremony at the Baltimore/Ohio Railroad Museum. Quite an honor!
On a happy note, the three sons that India left behind are being raised by Sonya’s daughter Brandi and son-in law Edwin; the boys are doing well and are thriving. Sonya also has a son, her eldest. It’s so good to see the entire family smiling and laughing together in our lobby after knowing that they have been through so much.
Keep up the good work Sonya!
